July 2020
Get Creative with TRASH.
Upcycle something that would normally be trash into art and share your creation at an August Meeting
Tips to meet the challenge:
1) See the beauty and the possibility in the common
- Interesting shapes, unique coloring, a flexible design medium that can morph into anything of your choosing -- these are some of the artistic and creative possibilities you may find in items that you'd normally toss without a thought.
2) Expand your view of "art"
- One quality of great art is that it makes you think. Taking on this creative challenge will stretch you no matter what the outcome may look like. You'll need to view things in a different way and perhaps view yourself in a different way.
3) Get inspired with examples from others.
- Here are a few "trash art" examples -- find many more online!

This challenge originated after EcoClub member and PhD candidate Stuart Deets gave a fascinating presentation on the connection between art and the environment. We thought it would be interesting to challenge ourselves to create using items that might otherwise be thrown out. And we want to see what our members come up with - so during our August meetings we would love for people to share their projects. There might even be a prize or two involved!
By participating in the Rotary EcoClub EcoChallenge for July 2020, you will see items of trash in a new light and put into practice "reuse" in an unexpected manner. You will connect with the EcoClub in a fun and playful way. You will tap into your own creativity and imagination.
Share your progress - the hurdles and the success - with Rotary EcoClub and your family and friends!
